Steward earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Ohio State Universitythe B.A. During his life he worked as a university professor, a tattoo artist, a pornographer, a novelist, and an editor ofthe World Book Encyclopedia. During the early 1960s, Steward changed his identity once again, this time to write exceptionally literate, upbeat homosexual pornography as Phil Andros. Born in Ohio in 1909, Samuel Morris Steward died in California in 1993. After leaving academe to become tattoo artist Phil Sparrow, Steward worked closely with Alfred Kinsey on his landmark sex research.
